How this particular estimate is calculated

This rectangular room has two 10-ft walls and two 10-ft walls, each 9 ft high. Its perimeter is 40 ft and its gross wall area is 360.00 sq ft. No doors or windows are assumed. The roll is 21 in wide and 66 ft long. The double label describes the preset used here; always compare it with the dimensions of the wallpaper you intend to buy.

The first wall needs ceil(120 ÷ 21) = 6 drops. The second needs 6. Rounding each wall before adding gives 24 drops across all four walls. The entered height is 108 in, with another 4 in for total top and bottom trim. The straight setting and 21-in repeat produce an effective cut of 126 in.

792 in roll ÷ 126 in effective drop → 6 complete drops per roll
24 drops ÷ 6 per roll → 4 working rolls
4 working + 1 spare → 5 physical packages

All four walls have the same effective cut length, so their drops share one roll pool. Adding the one selected spare gives 5 physical packages and a $225.00 material estimate at an illustrative $45 per physical package. The estimate excludes tax, shipping, adhesive, tools, and installation. 37.7% of the purchased gross area is outside the net wall area; this includes the unopened spare and does not mean that all of it becomes installation scrap.

What changes before you order?

Add your own openings to the corresponding wall. Conservative mode deducts their area while preserving full drops around partial-height doors or windows. Area-credit mode estimates short-piece reuse and can produce a lower purchase count, but does not guarantee a matching pattern above and below each opening. Check the lot numbers on every package, inspect the product’s match instructions, and decide how much spare stock you want. A different ceiling height or repeat can reduce the number of full drops per roll even if the wall area changes very little.
